RONALD "BEANS" BEHRENDS

Ronald "Beans" Behrends, 86, died on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications of COVID-19.
Private family services will be held Thursday, Jan.7, 2021, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Pastor Emory Gillespie will officiate at the services. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Mask's must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home. Social distancing standards need to be strictly observed.
Surviving are two children, Kent (Cindy) Behrends, Monticello, and Renee Vargas, Anamosa; nine grandchildren, Kelli Behrends, Adrianna Vargas, Angela (Mitch Crawford) Vargas, Alana Vargas, Karmen (Travis) Keltner, Aubrie Watkins, Jenny (Dan) Jacobs, Trevor (Jeni) Haas and Tyson (Milly) Haas; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Audrey.
Ronald Dean Behrends was born Dec. 13, 1934, at Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of William and Velma Miller, Behrends. Ron graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1954. He worked at Hearn Tire before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, Ron worked at Home Gas Company before taking a job at Energy Manufacturing. Ron was employed there for 35 years as a machinist.
Ron was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was active in the UAW Local 1613 and helped bring, DuTrac Credit Union to Monticello later serving on the board. He also belonged to Jones County Ducks Unlimited, the V.F.W., and the Monticello Drill Team. In retirement, he loved working at Pizza Ranch with all the young people.
