Ron Ransford, 59, of Marion, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Antioch Christian Church in Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Ron gave the gift of life by donating his organs.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy; son, David of Marion; two brothers, Carl Ransford (Jo Hunt) of Cedar Rapids and Don Ransford (Sharon) of Robins; brother-in-law, John Butler (Dawn) of Marion; seven nieces and nephews, Janis, Brad, Jess, Mike, Scott, Dan and Eric; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jenna, Emmalee, Lucas and Landon; two great-great-nephews, Max and Jaxen; and several adopted "grandchildren."
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Johnny; and a sister, Margie Ransford.
Ron was born Aug. 21, 1955, the son of Edward and Dorothy (Windsor) Ransford, in Anamosa. He was a 1975 graduate of Marion High School. On July 5, 1986, he married Wendy Butler at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Ron worked for the Cedar Rapids School District as a school bus driver and at Grainger.
He was a lifelong member and firearms instructor for the Boy Scouts of America.
Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing the Wapsi, camping, hiking, bicycling, motorcycles, tractors, "muscle" cars and was an animal lover. He was a family man who will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ron's memory.
