Rompot, Sadie Marie
Sadie Marie Rompot, 87, of 104 Outlook Drive SW, passed away from this life on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Sadie was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Schwartzenberger) Sturm Sr. She married Vernon Rompot Sr. on July 26, 1941. On their 40th anniversary, Vernon was baptized, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and their marriage validated in the Catholic Church. Sadie was president of the Tyler PTA and worked in the school cafeteria. She then worked at Armstrong Departments Store in the Marketing Department, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
In Sadie and Vern's retirement, they loved to go camping in their little camper with their dog, Bozo. She also loved her animals. She enjoyed it when her son, Vernie, would come home and they would go to the casino. In her last years, she also adopted some fish. She said that people would think that she was crazy for talking to fish. Sadie loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much and she would always worry about them. She loved the Cubs, hoping that they would win the World Series in her lifetime. She also loved to watch her favorite Soap Operas. Sadie always thought of others before she did herself and she will surely be missed by everyone that knew her.
Sadie is survived by two sons, the Rev. Mr. Vernon Rompot Jr., KHS of Denver, Colo., and Randy (Margie) Rompot Sr.; one daughter, Susan Mihal (Clyde Melvin); grandchildren, Lisa Thompson, Kelly Mihal, Scott (Holly) Mihal, Heath Mihal, Katie (Keith) Borden, Randy Rompot Jr., Adam Rompot, Matt (Sarah) Melvin, and Dennis Kramer Jr.; great-grandchildren, Rochelle Jackson, DeShone Jackson, Kegan, Kennedy, Kylie, Kameron, and Kyrah Borden, Tanner and Cael Mihal, Jacobi, and Jonah Rife, Jackie Lyman, Tristen and Johnathan Melvin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Rompot; sisters-in-law, Josephine Rompot, Sylvia Ulch, Gladys Sturm, Maxine Sturm; and brother-in-law, Don (Sandy) Rompot,
