Rompot, Josephine S.
Josephine S. Rompot, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at her daughter's home in Swisher. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Josephine was born March 17, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Frisch) Suchomel. She married Joseph A. Rompot on Oct. 26, 1935, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. She worked for Quaker Oats for over 35 years until her retirement.
In her early years she loved cooking, fishing, and going to the cabin at ZCBJ Park. Josephine enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, and spending time with her family.
Josephine is survived by her daughters, Patsy Ann (Al) Boeding of Ely and Peg (Roman) Zach of Swisher; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Jandl of Cedar Rapids; a son-in-law, Vern Brownell of Holy Cross; and a brother-in-law, Don (Sandy) Rompot of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Rosie Brownell; her sisters, Olga Roubecek, Blanche Lnenicka, Libby Lnenicka, Mary Pobuda, Rosie Suchomel, Helen Herman and Martha Suchomel; her brother, Wesley Suchomel; two sons-in-law, Donald Carlson and Kenny Merta Sr.; and a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Draper.
Memorials may be directed to either the Ely and or Swisher fire departments.
