Roman, Alma B.
Alma B. Roman, 99, Detroit Lake, Minn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Ave. NW.
Alma Bertha Roman was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Linn County, the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Novak) Dohnalek. She was raised on a farm in Linn County and graduated from high school in 1928. Alma was united in marriage to Ernest Roman on Sept. 15, 1934, in Cedar Rapids. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, where she worked for Collins Radio, retiring in 1972. Ernest died in 1999, and Alma moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn., in 2001.
Alma enjoyed baking, deserts and raising African violets.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (Joseph) Horacek of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; two grandchildren, Cindy (Dave) Kingrey and Richard (Lisa) Horacek; four great-grandchildren, Grace and Sarah Kingrey and Quinn and Avery Horacek; and a sister, Gladys Peterson of Cedar Rapids.
In addition to her husband, Ernest, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Dohnalek.
