Roloff, Chester H.
Chester H. Roloff, 87, of 404 Church St., Palo, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a sudden illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Randy Kasch will officiate. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.
Survivors include a son, Craig (Mary) of Bozeman, Mont.; and a daughter, Dawn Larson and her husband, Scott Ongie, of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Hailey, Jessie, Sydney and Ryan; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Max.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Mark; and a grandson, Chad.
Chester was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Delaware, Iowa, the son of Harry and Jennie (Tindell) Roloff. He married Ardith L. Elson on Nov. 2, 1947, at Rock Island, Ill. She died in 1999. Chester was a millwright at Penick & Ford and retired from there after 40 years of service in 1999.
He was a faithful member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Palo American Legion and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Chester enjoyed hunting, golf, playing softball, gardening, traveling with his wife, and was an avid bicyclist.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society in Chester's name.
