Rollin Dale Brenneman Sr. was born Feb. 14, 1940, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Ezra and Katie (Swartzendruber) Brenneman. On July 1, 1963, Rollin was united in marriage to Edna Chupp at his parents' home in rural Kalona. He started driving trucks in 1961, and in 1991, he started driving for Y&H Trucking in Kalona until his retirement in 2010. Rollin attended the Kalona Mennonite Church. He enjoyed gardening, working in his shop, spending time with family, watching eagles and collecting pocket knives and antique bottles. Rollin passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at his home in Kalona at the age of 76 years.
Rollin is survived by his wife, Edna; six sons, Rollin Jr. of Fairfax, Tracy of Iowa City, Paul (Rhonda) of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Terry (Kari) of Riverside, Eldon (Jennifer) of Wellman and Waylon (Tiffany) of Kalona; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Brenneman of Ladora and Raymond (Fannie) Brenneman of Bristol, Ind.; and a sister, Shirley (Calvin) Hochstetler of Kalona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary Brenneman; and a brother, Eldon Brenneman.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Kalona Mennonite Church. The Rev. Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 pm.
