Lowden
Roland C. Buck, 87, of Lowden, passed away on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with the Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial will follow at the Lowden Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Roland was born on Sept. 17, 1930, to Charles and Olga (Conrad) Buck in Lowden. He married Joanne Twachtmann, and she passed away in 1980. He then married Cynthia Olsgaard in December of 1982.
Roland served his country in the U.S. Army, and spent 18 months in Germany during the Korean War. He was a past president of the church council at St. John's UCC, and was a member and former post commander of the Lowden Legion. In his earlier years, he played fast-pitch softball and golf, and liked to fix things. Roland farmed his whole life.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; son, Michael (Connie) of Anamosa; grandchildren, Steven, Jaime, Thomas, Stacey (Justin) Hunter, Evan, Lauren (Tyler) Thoms and Justin; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Emersyn and Wyatt; stepchildren, Barry (Suzy) Dircks, Pam DesChatelets and Susan (Rick) Klatt; stepgrandchildren, Kelsey, Megan and Ryan; stepgreat-grandchild, Jackson; and sister, Judy Wulff of Clarence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Milligan; first wife, Joanne; and granddaughter, Erin Buck.
