Rohwedder, Thelma R.
Thelma R. Rohwedder, 94, of Anamosa, formerly of Olin, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at the Anamosa Care Center. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Olin Cemetery.
Thelma R. Rohwedder was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, to Nickolas and Rose (Novotny) Mizaur. She attended Oxford Junction schools, where she graduated from in 1936. In April 1938, she was united in marriage to Howard Becker at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. He passed away Jan. 27, 2004. They resided in Monmouth, where Thelma was employed 10 years with South Bend Fish & Tackle Co., and 10 years with Nissen Cleaners in Maquoketa. She also worked nine years as a hostess for Bishop Buffet at Westroads Mall in Omaha and Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids.
On Sept. 26, 1980, she married Ervin Rohwedder at St. Jude's Church in Cedar Rapids and retired from Bishop's in 1981. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction and a part of the Sanctuary Guild. She loved her beautiful flower gardens, needlework, and cooking for her family. Thelma and Erv enjoyed fishing and their precious times together. She was affectionately called “Rosie” and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball fan.
Thelma is survived by two sons, James (Jeannine) Becker of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Robert (Jeanette) Becker of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, LeLynn Becker of Charleston, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Donna Wickham of Minnetonka, Minn., and Rita Kelly of Springfield, Ill.; 11grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dr. Steven Becker; sisters, Henrietta, Georgia and an infant sister; and one brother, Robert.
The family wish to thank the Anamosa Care Center and St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids for the loving care given to their mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sen to Sacred Heart Guild in Oxford Junction or St. Luke's Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
