Rohret, Robert L.

Robert L. Rohret, 81, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville following an extended illness. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial, will military honors, will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Bob was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Johnson County, the son of Lloyd and Lola Holzhauser Rohret. He was a graduate of Cosgrove High School, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob married Mary Haman on Aug. 29, 1950, in Iowa City. Mary died Jan. 23, 2007.

Bob was a route man for Hometown Dairy, now Roberts Dairy, for 38 years, retiring in 1990. Bob was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and volunteered with Boy Scouts of America Troop 218, Iowa City. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and garden.

Bob is survived by five sons, Charles “Chuck” (Chris) Rohret of Iowa City, Stephen (Sharon) Rohret of Riverside, Patrick (Lori) Rohret of Pleasant Hill, Robert (Alice) Rohret of Jesup and Mark (Kathy) Rohret of Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Phyllis) Rohret of Iowa City and Richard (Barbara) Rohret of Tennessee; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Eugene.
