Rohrbough, Elizabeth (Betty) Marie
Elizabeth (Betty) Marie Rohrbough, 92, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died there Thursday, May 12, 2011. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Westminster Presbyterian Church Chapel. Arrangements by Iowa Cremation.
Betty graduated from the University of Nebraska with BS in Education in 1941. She worked in the Signal Corps (decoding) in Arlington, Va./Washington, D.C. She taught school in Fremont, Neb., for seven years. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1952, and began teaching first grade at Arthur School for 12 years. In 1965, she began teaching at Kenwood School for 15 years. In 1982, she retired after a 38 year teaching career that touched many lives.
In her teaching credentials was a note written by staff at Arthur School which revealed an insight into Betty's essence. It reads: “Betty is an excellent teacher and it is a pleasure to have her on the Arthur staff again this year. She has a pleasing manner of conducting her classes and she is very patient and kind with children. She is also cooperative and friendly with her fellow workers. Her work is always well planned and she is alert to the child's needs.”
Betty was a member and deacon of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
Her six surviving nieces and nephews wish to express a special debt of gratitude to the caring staff of The Meth-Wick Community for their tireless love and devotion demonstrated continuously during her stay.
