Rogers, Marilyn Trost
Marilyn Trost Rogers, 78, died Aug. 31, 2010, from complications of leukemia at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City.
Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Carol Trost, both deceased, she graduated from public schools in Fort Dodge in 1950 and attended junior college there. She was employed by the FBI as a fingerprint technician in 1951 in Washington, D.C., and later became a reporter for the Des Moines Register and Tribune in Des Moines.
Marilyn and Jack (John A.) Rogers were united in marriage in 1953, living in Ames, where she worked in the publicity department of WOI-TV. Following her husband's college graduation, they were stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., before being deployed to Hanau, Germany, where they spent the next one-and-a-half years, then returning to Fort Dodge, where Jack was employed at the former Standard Engineering Co. In 1974, Marilyn and Jack and their family moved to Iowa City. For nearly 20 years, Marilyn was a Realtor in Iowa City, last being employed by Coldwell Banker Realtors, retiring in 2001.
Marilyn and Jack have led an active life since, biking, gardening, and reading, enjoying family, and traveling internationally for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and has volunteered for many organizations during the course of her life, most recently the Crisis Center. She is survived by her husband, Jack; three sons, John (wife, Brenda) of Mound, Minn., Curt (wife, Rhonda) of Denver, Colo., and Scott (wife, Beth) of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Liddy Hora (husband, Gregg) of Fort Dodge and Sarah Dillon (husband, Tim) of Edina, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. The family will host a reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial of cremains will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. On Sunday, Sept. 19, the family plans a Memorial Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. Marilyn chose to be cremated. There will be no visitation. Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
Marilyn requested that in lieu of flowers, her funeral memorial be given to Iowa Trails Council to help support the bike trails in Iowa.
