Roger W. Mennenga, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Garrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Luke Evans officiating Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the George Hardinger American Legion Post 475 of Garrison and Iowa Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Roger was born, on May 9, 1928, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Sieba and Anna (Bulthuis) Mennenga. On May 11, 1951, Roger was united in marriage to Catherine "Betty" Graveman in Reinbeck. Roger served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Roger farmed in the Garrison area until retiring and moving to Garrison. He was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending flea markets, antique shows and fishing. He also loved to ride his bicycle around Garrison.
He is survived by his children, Randy Mennenga of Garrison and Deb (Loren) Zmolek of Dysart; three granddaughters, Laurie (Kendall) Havran of Montezuma, Lisa (Jon) Asmussen of Dysart and Heidi Zonn of Madison, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Dylan and Nolan Havran, Carter, Grace and William Asmussen, Sasha and Samuel Anderson; and his sister, Janet (Bud) Brubaker of Reinbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty, in 2015; daughter-in-law, Patricia Mennenga; sisters, Annabelle and Helen; and brothers, Charles, Henry, Walter, Robert and Jerry.
Roger was a tender-hearted, kind gentleman. He will be tenderly missed, but as a father, we were blessed with the best!
