Roger J. Puetz, 56, of Anamosa, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, with a Scripture service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa.

Surviving are his wife, Susan; mother, Therese; two sons, Austin (Lisa) Puetz and Anthony Puetz, both of Anamosa; four grandchildren, John Dale Puetz, Jack Austin Puetz, Karlee Jo Puetz and Paxton Mitchel Boe; brothers and sisters, Peter (Karen) Puetz, Rosemary (Roger) Recker, Eileen Puetz, Louise (Wayne) Stark, Kathleen (Mike) Hogan, Paul Puetz, Dianne (Bill) Thomas, Anita (Morrie) Billmeyer, Veronica (Dick) Oberbreckling, Loras (Davean) Puetz, Valerie Manternach, Paula (Matt) Bailey and Julie (Elmer) Ivy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Ramond Puetz; and brother, Richard Allen Puetz.
Roger J. Puetz was born May 24, 1957, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Anthony and Therese Delaney Puetz. He was a 1975 graduate of Aquin High School in Cascade. On June 19, 1982, Roger and Susan Woodward were united in marriage at St. Peter's Temple Hill.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1979 and then with the Iowa Army National Guard from 1982 to 1999, during which he was full time from 1988 to 1991. He was a sergeant at the Anamosa State Penitentiary from 1981 to 2012.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa and the American Legion in Anamosa and Lisbon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and golfing and was a gardener.
He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
