Roger "Jay" Christensen, 59, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at his home. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Jay was born May 14, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Merle and Carolyn (Brown) Christensen. He graduated from Prairie High School and Kirkwood Community College. On Sept. 30, 1978, Jay married Kathy Franks in Cedar Rapids. Through his career, he worked at Goss Graphics Systems as a machinist, Kirkwood Community College as an EMT instructor, Clipper Wind Power as safety manager and Associated Materials as safety director.

Jay is survived by his wife, Kathy of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Tiffany Christensen (Shawn Plucar) of Cedar Rapids; son, Jared (Andrea) Christensen of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Jamie (Jamie) Jones of Marion and Stacy Cannon of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jesse Sheehan of Walford, Iowa, and Ava Grafton, John Grafton, David Christensen, Anna Christensen, Michael Christensen, Grace Christensen and Matthew Christensen, all of Cedar Rapids; and father-in-law, Laurel Franks of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Christensen; mother, Carol Fisher; sisters, Sherry Cowan and Sharon Cannon; and mother-in-law, Jean Franks.
