Roger Greenland, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. Private inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Roger was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Verl and Wanda (Miller) Greenland. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950 and went on to attend Parson's College in Fairfield. Roger worked for his father's concrete company and then at Square D for 48 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Iowa Speed Skating Association. Roger enjoyed going to the casino and watching Westerns. He loved sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes and working concessions at games.
Survivors include his children, Michael Greenland of Cedar Rapids, Shelley (Lloyd) Reif of Fairfax, Iowa, Kelley (Randy) Hartwig of Marion, Iowa, Karen (Calvin) Yorgensen of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ellen Greenland of Rhinelander, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Wanda Greenland; wife, Doris, in 2017; and brother, Gary Greenland.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their loving care of Roger.
