Roger Elvis Karrick passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 30, 2018, from complications of COPD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Iowa Cremation with no services planned at this time.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie and Beverly Karrick and Sondra Howell; and one grandson, Keith Brooks.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Shahan; his parents, Elvis and Dora Karrick; two brothers, Lyle and Russell; a sister, June Leith; and son, Gregory Karrick.
Roger was born March 30, 1928, in Lincoln, Ill. In 1944, at age 16, he joined the Merchant Marines and sailed the North Atlantic until war's end. In 1949, he married Shirley Mason in Armington, Ill.; they were later divorced. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1954 and started Karrick Distributing Co. and, later, Home Town Improvement Co. He married Jean Shahan in 2003.
Roger had a flair for comedy and performed stand-up (including his Frank A. Bailey character) around the country for many large companies and also at Penguin's Comedy Club. Roger had a private pilot license for many years and enjoyed playing cards.
Roger had many friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
