Roehrkasse, Marjorie Elizabeth
Marjorie Elizabeth Roehrkasse died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, at the age of 94 years. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Williamsburg.
Marjorie was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Conroy, Iowa, the daughter of David and Rose (Olson) Frick. She graduated from Marengo High School and did one year post graduate work to receive her teaching certificate. She grew up in the Conroy and Marengo communities and moved to Williamsburg in 1940. On Jan. 21, 1940, Marjorie was united in marriage to Laurence F. Roehrkasse in Macon, Mo. She taught rural school at Sumner No. 6 for two years, worked at the Central Iowa Telephone Co., in Marengo for two years, worked part-time for ACT from 1978-1994 and was co-owner and operator at Roehrkasse Meat Co., Williamsburg. Marjorie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, where she was a past president of the Ladies Guild. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of VFW Post 8797 Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel, spending many winters snowbirding in south Texas. Marjorie's four most important things in her life were her faith, family, friends and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (Matthew) Kaschmitter of Coralville, Larry (Karol) Roehrkasse of Stillwater, Minn., John (Nancy) Roehrkasse of Urbandale and Don (Ann) Roehrkasse of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Randy) Vogel, Mark (Bronda) Kaschmitter, Olivia (Jeff) Hornig, Rachel (Mark) Rahn, Brian Roehrkasse and fiancee Megan Gerking, Dr. Tracey (Peder) Kopperud, Eric (Jenn) Roehrkasse and Michael (Haley) Roehrkasse; and nine great-grandchildren, Luke Kaschmitter, Elizabeth Kaschmitter, Lleyton Horing, Shale Hornig, Alixanderia Rahn, Mark Rahn and Rebekah Roehrkasse, Lilliann Roehrkasse and Addison Roehrkasse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Kathryn Froemming; and three brothers, Dale, Max and John Frick.
The family would like to thank the Cottage Grove staff for the wonderful care given to Marjorie.
