Roeder, Tom Charles
Tom Charles Roeder, 44, of Chelsea, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A memorial service will be Monday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center, 301 South Broadway, Toledo, with Pastor Mary Schnepf and Chaplain Darran Whiting officiating. A memorial visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church worship center.
Tom was born Nov. 16, 1964, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Eldred and Dorothy (Dolash) Roeder. He graduated from South Tama High School in 1983. On Oct. 15, 2004, he married Kara McLaren in Vining. Tom was previously employed at Musgrave Motors in Toledo as a mechanic and most recently was a mechanic and parts specialist at Southard Implement in Tama. He enjoyed spring mushroom hunting, fishing, golfing, airplanes, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents; his father-in-law, John McLaren; and a special friend, Gerald Eernisse.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife, Kara of Chelsea; his children, Stephanie Lea Roeder and Samantha Marie Roeder, both of Tama, and Jack MacLaren Roeder, at home; two grandchildren, Syraine Tyree Wolf and Shylin Taylese Buffalo; two brothers, James (Naomi) Roeder of Pine Top, Ariz., and Michael Roeder of Iowa City; one sister, Janet Roeder of Clinton; four nephews and one niece; his mother-in-law, Katherine McLaren of Bella Vista, Ark.; two brothers-in-law, Robert McLaren of Travelers Rest, S.C., and William (Terry) McLaren of Marion; and a special friend, Marlene Eernisse of Toledo.
Contributions in Tom's memory may be given to the Tom Roeder Benefit Fund at The State Bank of Toledo.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is handling the arrangements.
