Rodney "Rocket" Glenn Jones, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to
6 p.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial at a later date at Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington.
Rodney was born on April 7, 1941, in rural Palo, son of Lauren and Emma (Pavek) Jones and graduated in 1958 from Palo High School. On Oct. 7, 1983, he married the love of his life, Bonnie (Kelsey) Jones, at the Morgan Creek Arboretum.
Rodney was in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) until going to work for Nissen Trampoline. Rodney owned his own gas station and garage in Palo, and was also employed by Varns & Hunter Motor Supply, Tri County Dairy and General Mills, where he was known as "Rocket."
Rodney enjoyed camping, Crown Royal and, in his younger days, drag racing. He belonged to the Church of Covington and was a member of the Eagles Club.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bonnie; sister, Nancy Klaner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barb and Dan Teed, Becky and Mark Chamberlain and Belinda and Bill Yuska; nieces and nephews, Karla Voss, Becky and Rob Baskerville, Danielle and Russ O'Rourke, Brandon and Jodie Yuska, and Kelsey and Michael Rumery; great-nieces and -nephews, Lauren and Jack Baskerville, Jordan Baskerville, Peyton Baskerville (Colton Schneider), Bobby (Morgan Ryan) Baskerville, Emily and Ryan Richardson; great-great-nieces and -nephews, Eddie and Bella Richardson, Emmy Baskerville, Katy, Haden and Nolan Yuska, Lincoln Rumery; and also his fur baby, Miss Emma.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother-in-law, Vern Klaner; and in-laws, Claude and Joanne Kelsey.
Memorials may be directed to the Greater Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
