Rodney Kurt Larson, 77 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Burial: Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may visit with the family at Teahen Funeral Home on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m., prior to the service.
Rodney is survived by his sister, Twyla Gilbert of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Chris Gilbert of Hiawatha; and niece, Dawn Miltenberger of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dudley Larson.
Rodney was born on January 2, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Carl and Josephine Steinke Larson. He attended Malcom Price Lab School, Cedar Falls, and graduated in 1965 from State College High School, Cedar Falls. Rodney attended Iowa State University, Ames, from 1965 to 1968 and received an Associate of Science degree in 1969 from Central Technical Institute, Kansas City, MO. He graduated from California State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After completing his education, Rodney worked as an Electrical Engineer for Rockwell-Collins since 1976 until his retirement. He was a member of the Cedar Amateur Astronomers, Inc.
Rodney was a recreational pilot, an amateur ham radio operator, and an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
He will be remembered for his zest for life and will be missed by those who knew him.
