Rodney Dean Zitek, 64, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Per his wishes, no visitation or public services will be held.
Rod was born on March 28, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Betty (Novotny) Zitek. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1975. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky. He met his wife, Linda (Seay) Zitek, while serving. The were united in marriage on July 14, 1979, in Clarksville, Tenn. After moving back to Cedar Rapids, he worked with his dad from 1979-1990 for Zitek Electric. In July of 1990, he started a job with FedEx, where he retired from in August of 2012.
Rod is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; two children, Erin (Andy) Pinter of Cedar Rapids and Kari (Dan) Ness of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Madison and Kasen Pinter and Easton and Rylan Ness; mother, Betty Zitek; brother, Russell Zitek; and uncle and aunt, Donald and Delores Novotny.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Zitek; and granddaughter, Makaela Ann Ness.
