Rodger Thomas Greear, 71, of Marion, died Thursday, June 7, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation one hour prior to service.
Rodger was born Aug. 25, 1946, the son of Thomas and LaVerne (Derby) Greear in Cedar Rapids. He served four tours with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. On Jan. 14, 1981, he was married to Vicky Marsh. Rodger was a police officer with the Marion Police Department until his retirement in 1999.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and liked working outside. As a firearm enthusiast, he greatly enjoyed working on his guns.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky Greear; six children, Rodger (Cara) Gray, Benjamin Greear, Andrew (Karen) Greear, Stephanie (Scott) Vesey, Shannon (Todd) Albright and John Greear; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Vern (Janet) Greear; honorary brother-in-law, Jim Douglas; and nephews, Tom and Dave Greear and Jeff and Jamie Moon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cole Gray; great-grandson, Roran Clark; and honorary sister-in-law, Carlene Douglas.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in memory of Rodger.
