Rodney Thein, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. At his request, no services will take place.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca; daughters, Tyann and Heather Thein of Oxford Junction; father, Frederick of Rockford, Ill.; sister, Stacie Bolen of Dakota, Ill.; grandchildren, Taylor of Seattle, Wash., and Jacob, Katelyn and Hallie of Oxford Junction; other grandchildren, Cody and Hanna Roth of Albia and Madison Earle of Garrison; and great-grandchildren.
Rod was born Dec. 30, 1946, in Elkader, Iowa, to Frederick and Betty Lou (Lewin) Thein. He and Carol (Moon) Thein had three children before divorcing in 1994. In 1999 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., he married Rebecca (VanVoltenburg) Thein.
Rod loved the Cubs, loved sports and loved fishing. He was employed at FMC as a machinist for many years and owned Rod's Sports Cards Plus in Marion.
He was preceded in death by his mother; son, Jason Thein; and brother, Dennis Thein.
