Robin Eugene Powers
Robin Eugene Powers
Seaside, Oregon
Born on January 1, 1950, in Vinton, Iowa, as the first New Year's baby, Robin Eugene Powers passed away on November 5, 2024, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Eugene Leonard and Ima Jean Powers.
Raised in Vinton, Robin attended the Vinton Community School System. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his military service, Robin resided in New Jersey and Florida, where he earned a degree in Journalism. He worked as a chef in various seafood restaurants and developed a passion for surfing. Robin would say that if the waves aren't big enough to hurt you, it’s not worth going. He would boast about having a surfing addiction. Robin's other passions were reading, and music. Robin could pull a lyric from a song to fit any topic of discussion.
Robin eventually settled in Seaside, Oregon, establishing Straight Arrow Landscaping, but only to support his surfing habit. He was an active member of the surfing community and cherished his time spent surfing whenever the waves were worthy.
In addition to surfing, Robin enjoyed reading, music, and gardening. He took great pride in his farm, cultivating beautiful flowers and a lush garden, raising goats, chickens, and dogs.
Robin is survived by his sisters, Cheryl Knaack (Harold), Betty Shea (Mark), Patty Powers, and a brother, Bob Smalley. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Gary Turner, Vicki Turner, Roger Powers, Sandra Cox, and Mark Smalley.
Celebration of Life: A burial and celebration of Robin's life will take place in Vinton on Memorial Day weekend.
