Robertson, John 'Jack'
John “Jack” Robertson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Mark Reasoner. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Pat; his children, Robin (Shaun) Stevenson, Gainesville, Fla., Terri Laughlin, Safford, Ariz., and Larry “Jim” Howe, Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Thomas Stanfield, Jill Walsh, Randi (Ian) Hicks, Eve (Rob) Wile, Todd (Jessica) Furnish, Evan (Kathryn) Furnish, Randa (Richard) Porter and Nick (Shelley) Howe; his great-grandchildren, Kylan, Mikiah, Brandon, Seth, Layla, Zayden, Trevin, Aubry, Randi and Dylan; siblings, Ila (Russ) Swearingen and Norman (Joyce) Robertson; sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Ron) Like and Jan (Van) Weeks; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Howe; and brother, Stewart Robertson.
Jack was born Oct. 16, 1930, the son of John and Stella (Porter) Robertson, in Massachusetts. He started working in the auto business as a mechanic and salesman. Jack then had a Sunbeam bread route and was owner/operator of Rossie's Café in Iowa City. After retiring, he worked part-time at SunLine.
Jack loved the Indy car races, NASCAR and having a “toddy” with his friends, of which he had many.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or St. Jude Catholic Church in memory of Jack.
