Robert Dwight Wilbanks, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; children, Dwight (fiancee Redemptna) Wilbanks, Susan Wilbanks, Timothy Wilbanks and Eric (Danielle) Wilbanks; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Sophia, Elena, Nicholas, Maxwell, Echo and Riley; and a brother, Gerald Burkhalter.
Bob was born Dec. 15, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Dwight and Maxine Wilbanks. He graduated from Ottumwa High School and went on to earn his master's degree in chemical engineering and bachelor of pharmacy from the University of Iowa. He owned and operated Bob's First Avenue Pharmacy in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years, and then worked for Hy-Vee and Pamida as a pharmacist for many years.
Bob was an avid bowler, serving on the board of directors for the Cedar Rapids American Bowling Association. He also enjoyed science fiction and playing computer games. His biggest, truest love was his four-legged canine friends, Rufus and others.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
