Robert "Bob" J. Vercande, 75, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed toward the Hills, Iowa, First Responders or the Robert Vercande Scholarship Fund at English Valleys High School.
Robert was born April 29, 1942, in North English, son of Joseph Cloyd "J.C." and Martha (Schwarting) Vercande. Bob served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964. On July 16, 1966, Bob married Mary Ann Carson, the love of his life.
Bob was manager of campus maintenance services for the University of Iowa Physical Plant for over 32 years.
Bob was a longtime resident of Hills, where he served on the City Council for eight years. Bob was a member of St. Patrick Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; their two children, Kimberly Vercande and Steven Vercande; siblings, Eldon (Peggy) Vercande, Dale (Darlene) Vercande and Benny (Jan) Vercande; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Martha; brother, Leo Vercande; and sister, Maryann Fuller.
