Robert "Bob" Sebetka, 78,
of Ely, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family burial will be held at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born March 22, 1939, and raised in rural Marion, the son of George
and Mary (Marousek) Sebetka. He loved farming, raising livestock and hunting. Horses became his life's career. He was a fulltime horseshoer for over 18 years, traveling in many states. Through his retirement, he continued to enjoy his love of buying and selling horses and tending to his farm.
Bob was very proud of his Czech heritage and will be remembered for his love of Pepsi, smoking his pipe and embellishing stories.
He will be dearly missed as he touched the lives of many.
Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of over 35 years; his children, Russ of Iowa, Mike of Arkansas and Kathy Sebetka (George Lopez) of California; granddaughter, Kelly Sebetka of Pennsylvania; his sister, Marie Vanous of Independence; his brother-in-law, Duane Brown of Ladora; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lucille Brown; and a brother-in-law, Ed Vanous.
