Robert Charles was born on Feb. 19, 1929, in Norway, the son of Arthur and Mary Davin Schmidt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. He married Mary Elizabeth Cunningham on Sept. 2, 1957, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Bob worked as a machinist for 35 years at Iowa Manufacturing. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Hiawatha American Legion Post 735.
Bob was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, especially 500 at St. Jude and St. Patrick Catholic Church and euchre during the holidays. Bob found enjoyment at Aspen Athletic Club, working out and partaking in Silver Sneakers. More than anything, though, Bob enjoyed his time spent with his family and grandchildren.
