Robert L. Ruppert was born March 19, 1925, in the north part of Iowa City, the son of Charles "Dodd" W. Ruppert and Katherine M. (Dohrer) Ruppert. Robert grew up in the north end of Iowa City. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was active in Extension Service.
On June 17, 1950, he married Maxine Warson. He was a loving husband and they celebrated their 66th anniversary this year. As a couple, they purchased a farm north of Tiffin, where they farmed and raised a family of five. He had a passionate and generous devotion to his family. Precious memories include yearly summer vacations going out west to the mountains. He enjoyed games, including run-around ping pong, croquet and bid euchre. His blue eyes sparkled when he told a good joke.
He was a tinkerer, repairing his own equipment and later creating metal sculptures. He also wrote poetry and hymns.
Robert appreciated God's creation and enjoyed walks in the timber, finding mushrooms, picking berries and going fishing or hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; children, Becky (Dennis) Conrad of Reno, Nev., Pat (Gary) Kleinmeyer of Lone Tree, Bill (Karen) Ruppert and Linda (Ron) Alberts, both of Tiffin, and Paul (Irina Kostina) Ruppert of Iowa City; grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Ponce, Casey Conrad, Katie (Brian) Stoklasa, Leanne (Derrick) Klinkenberg, Ivan Kleinmeyer, Rose Woods, Jennifer and Caroline Ruppert, Zach, Rachel and Sarah Alberts, Alex Ruppert and Marina Kostina; great-grandchildren, William, Connor and Eli Klinkenberg, Skylar Stoklasa, Nakia and Tristan Tangang and Kaliana Woods; and a sister, Katherine Hogan.
Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles, Cleldon, Herman, Dick, twins Ralph and Rosamond, and his twin brother, Albert.
