Robert L. Roof, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at his home. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with a masonic service at 4 p.m. Private inurnment will be in the mausoleum.
Survivors include his longtime friend, Betty Craig, and Betty's family; two sons, Rick Roof and wife Laurie and Rims Roof and wife Donna; two daughters, Rhonda Saxton-Williams and David and Reba Roof and husband Thomas; and 11 grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Coleen; his parents; and a brother.
Bob owned and operated Roof Oil Service Station for 34 years.
Bob was a lifelong member of numerous Masonic organizations that included a 50-plus-year member of Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge 263 A.F. & A.M., Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite, 50-plus-year member of El Kahir Shrine, where he was a member of the Greeters Unit, Foot Patrol, Hospital Dads, as well as the Jesters and served as a Potentate Aide for many years. He also was a member of the Elks and VFW.
Bob enjoyed his retirement, spending time with family, bowling leagues and golfing.
He will be missed by family and friends.
Please consider a donation in his honor to the El Kahir Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 905 Tower Terrace Rd., Hiawatha, IA 52233. Bob donated many hours helping children and their families with transportation to the Shriners Hospitals.
