Robert W. Rinderknecht, 88, died Monday, April 4, 2016, at Westridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the church in Atkins.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Robert was born Oct. 2, 1927, near Shellsburg, to Martin and Sophia (Voehl) Rinderknecht. He graduated from the Atkins High School in 1946. On June 12, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lois Weirup at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Robert farmed in the Shellsburg area from age 19 to his retirement at age 66.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. He enjoyed family trips to Lake of the Ozarks and Branson. He also enjoyed playing cards in couple card clubs and playing pinochle with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Atkins; his children, Jeanne (Ron) Fisher of Shellsburg and Jeffrey (Mary) Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Christopher Fisher, Kylie Fisher, Vanessa White and Heather Brown; his great-grandchildren, Ayana and Kyra White and Emery Derosiers; one niece; and three nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rolland Rinderknecht; his sister, Marlys Miltner; one niece; and two nephews.
