Robert A. Rasley was born May 24, 1930, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Mabel (Wolf) Rasley. Following graduation from University High in Iowa City, Bob attended the State University of Iowa from 1948 to 1955. He played basketball and golf during college, lettering in golf from 1953 to 1955. Golf was a lifelong pursuit. He started working for the University of Iowa in 1956. In 1958, he moved to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where his career spanned 35 years. During this time, he held the positions of business manager, administrator, director of staff relations and development, and senior assistant director.
Bob married Dorothy "Rusty" Ruschmeyer on Sept. 5, 1953, in Iowa City. Bob and Rusty's professional careers, pursuit of golf, and the Hawks allowed them to travel extensively. Bob had a great love affair with the Hawks, to which his involvement in the Johnson County I-Club, Varsity Club, National I-Club and University of Iowa Athletic Club can attest. He served as president of each organization through the years. In 2000, he was named National I-Club Hawk of the Year and received a special commendation in 2016.
Bob is survived by his two sons and their wives, Robert A. Rasley II and Donna and Michael A. Rasley and Del; six grandchildren, Sara Miller (Dustin), Alicia Myers (Scott), Ryan Rasley (Sarah), Rynae Rasley, Rachelle Rasley and Jessica Rasley; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, June Rasley; and his dear friend, Stephanie Winebrenner-Gomez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; brother, Jim; an infant son, Richard; a daughter-in-law, Lauren; and a great-granddaughter, Libby.
