Robert Lee Quinby, 85, of Brighton, Mich., formerly of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Lebanon, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017.
He was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harry D. and Virginia W. Elizabeth (Carson) Quinby. Robert was the beloved husband of Joyce Ann (Feddersen) Quinby, whom he married Oct. 24, 1953, in Cedar Rapids; loving father of Pastor Debbie (Eric) Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Chris (Robert) Geinzer of Howell, Mich.; brother of Wayne Quinby of Cedar Rapids; and proud grandfather of four and great-grandfather of five. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Robert was a former member of VFW Post 4107 in Lebanon, Mo., American Legion Post 624 in Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Howell Senior Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.
He worked for Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids for 39 years before retiring in 1990. He also was a police officer, serving as chief for Hiawatha.
Robert loved woodworking, gardening and fishing. He was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 2101 S. Hacker Rd., Brighton, Mich., where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10. (Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. at the church) Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home, Howell, Mich. (517-546-2800). Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mich.
