Robert E. "Bob" Olson, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia; a daughter, Dana (John) Linzy of Rhine, Ga.; and a son, Dion (Karen Stallman) Daubenmier of Cedar Rapids. He also is survived by four grandchildren, Derik and Tyler Daubenmier and Amanda and Alicia Linzy.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Donald and Raymond.
Bob was born Sept. 22, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lawrence and Elenora Strand Olson. He married Cynthia L. Kehne on June 12, 1981, in Cedar Rapids. Bob worked at Alliant Energy as an operating engineer as well as in the water treatment department for over 29 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Marion American Legion Post 298, the Moose Lodge and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.
Bob enjoyed gardening, yard work and especially the time spent with his beloved family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the D.A.V. or the Marion American Legion.
