Robert A. Nurre, 89, of Delhi, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at St. John's Catholic Church, Delhi. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clifton Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, with a 4 p.m. Scripture service and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Delhi.
Robert was born Aug. 5, 1926, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Ben and Eleanor (Hoefer) Nurre. He was raised on a farm near Colesburg and attended school there. On July 19, 1948, Robert married Ruth Ann Benn. Together they farmed near Hopkinton. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus and delivered senior meals for many years. He was proud of his 1945 Dodge truck. He enjoyed square dancing, listening to their player piano and other music as well. Robert especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Monticello, formerly of Delhi; seven children, Richard (Mary) Nurre of Marion, Paul (Shirley) Nurre of Talkeetna, Alaska, Margaret (Bob) Picray of Monticello, Michael Nurre of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Steve) Kelchen of Anamosa, Alan (Bonnie) Nurre of Delhi and Susan (Jim) Hartzler of Byron, Minn.; brothers, Thomas (Mary Ellyn) Nurre of Amana and John Nurre of Ashland, Ore.; sister-in-law, Edna Nurre of Robins; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd Nurre and Jim Nurre; sister, Helen Schechtman; brother-in-law, Merle Schechtman; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Nurre.
