Robert McCullough, 90, of Anamosa, died Sunday, March 1, 2015. Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa at a later date.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Susan (Walter) Meyer of Cedar Rapids and Sally Ann Rahill of Anamosa; grandchildren, Danny, Michael, David, Mark (Jodie) and Heidi (Darren) Mebius, Tami, Jenny (Scott) and Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, McKenna, Ciera, Alex, Chelsie, Elizabeth, Savannah, Alexa, Erika, Jacob, Connor and Chase.
He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife.
Robert "Bob" McCullough was born on Sept. 10, 1924, in Anamosa, to John "Jack" and Jennie (Chipman) McCullough. Bob graduated from Anamosa High School in 1943. Bob and Nelda Newhard were united in marriage on May 17, 1943, in Canton, Mo. They were childhood sweethearts since the second grade. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a medic. Other than the three years they lived in California, Bob and Nelda lived in Anamosa their entire lives.
Bob and Nelda owned and operated the Anamosa Furniture Mart for over 20 years. He was very proud of the
A-frame home they built behind the mart in 1976. Bob was an avid golfer and fisherman. During his leisure time, he could be found either on the golf course or down at the river fishing off the banks. During their retirement years, Bob and Nelda enjoyed vacationing in Hot Springs, Ark., where they loved to attend the horse races at Oaklawn Park.
Bob was a kind and loving man with a contagious laugh and always had a joke to tell. He will be sadly missed.
Condolences may be sent to the family at 21565 County Road E34, Anamosa, IA 52205.
A special thank you to ALL the staff at The Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center for taking such good care of Bob.
