Robert Joseph McCormick, 74, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, with Father Craig Steimel as celebrant. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery near Van Horne. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.
A memorial fund has been established.
Robert was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Vinton to Bernard and Irene (Voss) McCormick, and graduated from the Keystone High School in 1958. Robert was proud to be a member of the state qualifying Keystone Comet basketball team his senior year. He joined the National Guard following graduation.
On Aug. 10, 1968, he was united in marriage to Julie Nelson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne.
Robert truly loved farming on his family farm for over 50 years, with his final harvest in the fall of 2014.
He was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne and also was a member of the Keystone Turners.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, his family was his greatest joy.
Robert is survived by his wife, Julie, of Keystone; his daughters, Cristina (William) Hurley of Van Horne and Megan (Christian) Schultheis of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Colin and Seamus Hurley of Van Horne and Evan, Aidan and Lilian Schultheis of Dubuque; his brother, Donald (Linda) McCormick of Marion; his sister, Catherine Martin of Cedar Rapids; his sisters-in-law, Marsha McCormick of Cedar Rapids and Regina Gustafson of The Villages, Fla.; his aunt, Alice Ehrman of Blairstown; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Melvin McCormick.
