Robert "Bob" McBride, 96, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Per Bob's wishes,
cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, located at 3500 29th Ave. in Marion, by Pastor Dennis Johnson. The family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon reception at the church. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include his children, Thomas McBride of Cedar Rapids, Donald (Jane) McBride of Bernard, Roger (Cindy) McBride of Rudd, Linda Koch of Cedar Rapids and Pamela (Greg) Stewart of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Gale of Sun City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; and his siblings, Ray McBride, Dorothy Moore and Dolly Smith.
Bob was born Dec. 29, 1919, on a farm in Kidder, Mo., to Guy and Grace (Goodrow) McBride. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1938, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Trpkosh, on Nov. 23, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1947. He worked at Cargill as production manager for 24 years and later at Quaker Oats for 15 years as foreman in the maintenance department. He and Margaret raised five children together.
After retiring, he and Margaret took many trips and spent many winters in Arizona. They enjoyed their Pinochle Card Club and also seeing bands at Danceland Armor.
Bob loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob's memory to either American Legion Post 298 of Marion or Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in which he was a charter member.
