ROBERT LEE TALLMAN
Cedar Rapids
Robert Lee Tallman, 62, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, after several years of extensive heart and lung issues. Robert died peacefully in his home with his
daughter and grandkids.
Robert was born in Anamosa, Iowa, on July 27, 1959, to Marvin Lee Tallman and Shirley Ann (Sutherland) Tallman. He graduated from Anamosa High School and worked for the City of Cedar Rapids Sanitation department before moving to the landfill where combined he spent almost 30 years. Bob truly enjoyed his time as a heavy equipment operator at the landfill.
In 1984, he met Karen Rinehart and they spent 30-plus years together with her children, Terry, Randy, Penny Jeff, Doug, Todd, Scott and Darla and their spouses and the many grandkids and great-grandkids.
He treasured moments with special grandkids, Matthew and Brittany and their friends, never missing a ball game, school event or opportunity to chauffer them around. He was known for spoiling them with trips to Dairy Queen, scary movies, their joint love for animals of all kinds. Most recently, he opened his heart and home to Sarin, Ariya and Himley being the best Papa and friend to them. He will we be remembered for mixing up everyone's names, providing the fun treats and enjoying long phone calls.
He is survived by two brothers, Michael Freeman of Texas and David (Dennis) Tallman; two sisters, Pat Fountain of Canton, Mo., and Debbie (Gary) Taylor of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; wife, Karen Rinehart; her son, Terry; brother-in-law, Dale; niece, Michelle "Mickey" Fountain Brayton; and special uncle, Bill.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Please share your support and memories with Robert's family on his Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under obituaries.
