Robert L. Stewart, age 90, of Riverside, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023,
at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at the Elm Grove Cemetery led by the Washington Masonic Lodge #26. Military honors will be accorded by Washington American Legion Post 29 at the cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Memorials have been established for the Riverside First Responders. Robert was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Everette A. and Laura J. (Graham) Stewart. He graduated from Washington High School in 1951. Bob was united in marriage to Betty L. Wood on Dec. 28, 1952, in Ainsworth, Iowa. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956.
Following his time in the service, Bob and Betty moved to Riverside, Iowa. Bob worked as a Draftsman at Proctor and Gamble in Iowa City for 36 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a 50 year member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud of the 1952 M38A1 Jeep that he restored.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty Stewart of Riverside, Iowa; daughter, Barbara D. James of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Sheri L. Plecker and husband Marty of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Robert W. Stewart and wife Marita C. of Rangely, Colo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Pepper of Glendale, Ariz.; sister, Patricia Dawson and husband Clyde of Washington, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Robert Dill of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Dill; son-in-law, Craig James; and brother-in-law, Roger Pepper.
