Bob found pleasure in everyday family activities, always enthusiastic for a road trip to attend a kid's sporting event or a family party, and he established many long-lived friendships with extended "family" through his interest and generosity related to genealogy research. One of Bob's early jobs was as a photographer, studying and working with Fred W. Kent at the University of Iowa, and his collection of photographs and slides has provided many with source material and special entertainment. He and Mary were active volunteers for many years at the Iowa County Historical Society. Bob served as treasurer of the historical society for 12 years and especially enjoyed his work restoring the log cabin and the Gritter Creek School building.
