Robert L. "Bob" Schwab, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care in Belle Plaine. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at Phillips Funeral Home, 92 Fifth Ave., Keystone, with Don Drahos officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Irving Cemetery will full military honors conducted by the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post 107 of Keystone. The family requests no flowers or memorial contributions.
Bob was born July 2, 1926, in Vinton, the son of Henry and Alvena (Schluntz) Schwab. Bob attended Belle Plaine Schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Sara Carbaugh in 1950 and they later divorced.
Bob was a lifelong farmer and owner/operator of Bob Schwab Building Service from the 1960s until 2017. Bob, escorted by his son, Joe, was able to participate in the October 2017 Iowa Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was a member of the VFW and a 74-year member of the American Legion Post of Keystone.
He is survived by his children, Joe Schwab, Terry (Denise) Schwab, all of Belle Plaine, Karla (Robert) Mall of Augusta, Ga., and Lisa (John) Blabaum of Liscomb; his six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two stepgrandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Wayne Schwab; and his sister, Evelyn Novak.
