Robert L. Berry, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 8, 2023, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Marion. Visitation will be starting at 10 a.m. at the church.
Bob was raised in Parnell, Iowa, and was a graduate of Coe College. He also served in the U.S. Army. In 1991, Bob retired after 32 years at Rockwell Collins.
Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was very active throughout his life and enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, golf, playing cards and he was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
Bob lived his life with integrity, hard work and a strong faith. As an active member of St Joseph’s Church in Marion and a volunteer for numerous organizations, he was always giving of his time.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Helga; his son, Stephen (Karen) Berry; stepchildren, Michael (Debbie) Goldsmith, Patricia (Eric) Fawks, Rick (Saborah) Goldsmith, Kim Goldsmith; grandchildren, Courtney, Gage, Lucas, Lindsey, Cory, Hailey, Garrett, Emma and Nick; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Patricia; daughter, Margaret; his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and his faithful dog, Reggie.
Helga and family would like to thank Hiawatha Care Center and St. Luke’s Hospice for the wonderful care. Special thanks to Bob’s niece, Judy Sheely and dear friends, Carmen Bannister and Dan and Geri Stabile, for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the Veteran’s organization or animal rescue organization of your choice.
