Robert Kvach, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Aug. 5, 2021. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The family will be holding a private graveside service,
with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Robert Louis Kvach was born June 23, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Louis and Hazel Kvach.
He raced Harley-Davidson motorcycles on the beach at Daytona in 1958-59 riding for the factory.
Bob was united in marriage to Gayle Johnston July 22, 1961, in Cedar Rapids. In 1970, he worked at Duane Arnold Energy Center. His safety belt came unhooked and he had a 1 in rebar go through his body.
Starting in 1970, he went to Daytona Beach and worked on Ramo Stott's race car until 1988 when he retired. He attended 58 years in a row at Daytona.
Bob was a home builder and made homebuilder of the year in 1994. He was in construction all his life.
Robert is survived by his wife, Gayle; son, Brad (Diana); a granddaughter, Jayci; two brothers, Jim (Loretta) and Donald (Aldie); two sisters, Loretta (Don) Vanourney of Tucson, Ariz., and Judy Owens of Grand Junction, Colo.; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice.
