Robert Lee Kirk, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Cremation will take place following the visitation. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Alice Cemetery, Center Point, conducted by the Rev. Susan Higdon.
Robert was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Linn County, the son of George W. and Leila D. (Fee) Kirk. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953, and was a member of American Legion Post 0297 in Center Point. Robert was united in marriage to Margaret A. Eldred on Aug. 18, 1950, at Alice United Methodist Church in Center Point. He retired in 1993 as a machinist for Cherry-Burrell.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. Kirk of Cedar Rapids; children, Kevin L. (Sheila) Kirk of Birmingham, Ala., and Karen A. Kirk, Kendall R. Kirk and Karla J. Kirk, all of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Douglas R. (Mary) Kirk of Marion, Ronald G. (Rosy) Kirk of St. Paul, Minn., and Lenita Hepker of Illinois; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Bernita Satkamp; paternal grandparents, George and Mary (Wheeler) Kirk; and maternal grandparents, Frank and Marie (Lala) Fee.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested any memorials be made to UnityPoint Hospice.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at UnityPoint Hospice, especially Kim and Suzanne, for the care and support they gave to Robert during his final weeks.
