Robert Warren Kieck, 83,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday night, April 11, 2018. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home followed by a private family graveside service.
Bob was born May 17, 1934, and lived in Springfield, Neb., through high school, then attended the University of Nebraska. He moved to Cedar Rapids with his parents in 1954, after serving two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Wash. He returned to Cedar Rapids, where he worked and owned the family business, Kieck's Department Store and Kieck's Career Apparel, until he retired in 2005.
Bob loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, biking and golf. His special interests were primitive camping and revolutionary war re-enactments, which he especially enjoyed with his grandsons, Andy and Ben. His main hobby was building flintlock muzzleloader long rifles.
Bob was a member of Thursday Noon Optimists and EX Club. He was a Hawkeye football season ticket holder for more than 30 years and after retiring, Bob enjoyed volunteering at St Luke's Hospital.
Bob and his wife, Bobbie, traveled all over the United States and Europe. One of the other things that made him the happiest was time spent with family and friends, and to make other people smile, which he was great at doing through a joke or two.
Bob is survived by loving family members, daughter, Julie (Lee) Hines, grandchildren, Andy Choate, Ben Choate, Alexa Hines and Grael Pedersen-Kieck; great-granddaughter, Emma Choate; sister-in-law, Kathy (Tom) Houlahan; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Rob; and the love of his life, his wife, Bobbie.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dogs Forever and Fur Fun Rescue or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to share a special thank you to the staff of Keystone Cedars for the special care shown to Bob and his family.
