Robert K. “Bob” Smith, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors to be rendered.
Bob is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rita; sons, Bruce (Grace) Smith, Richard (Deborah) Smith, and Daniel (Michelle) Jungjohann; grandchildren, Michelle, Tracy, Rhiannon, Nicholas, Dustin, Kendra, and Amber; and 13 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Doris, Mary, and Judy.
Bob was born on July 15, 1933, in New Albany, Indiana, to Virgil and Grace Smith. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He retired after 22 years of dedicated service. Following his military career, Bob worked as an electrician for Sears for 20 years before retiring to enjoy his family and life’s other passions.
Bob had a deep love for traveling, tending to his garden, and preparing meals that brought people together. He cherished exploring National Parks with family and friends. Above all, Bob was known for being the most hospitable person, always welcoming others with warmth, kindness, and a generous heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
