Robert John Pogge was born on May 23, 1926, in West Point, Iowa, the son of Albert and Neva (Foss) Pogge. Bob attended St. Mary's school in Riverside. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 21, 1949, Bob was united in marriage to Kathleen Agnes Knebel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. He was the owner/operator of the DX bulk delivery service in Riverside and surrounding areas and later retired from the University of Iowa. Bob was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, all sports, and state, national and international travel, especially driving across the U.S.A. with Kathy by his side, interpreting the maps. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family members. A close second had to be his love for devouring newspapers, front to back, multiple times!
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy Pogge; children, Carol (Thom) Kirkpatrick of Hills, Barbara (Dan) Pence of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, and Nancy Kirkpatrick (Joel Simms) of North English; four grandchildren, Dan (Heather) Pence, Chris (Erin) Michel, Stacey (Chad) Huedepohl and Levi (fiancee Lauren Knaack) Kirkpatrick; four great-grandchildren, Tailor Kai Pence, Luke and Chase Michel and Lena Huedepohl; and nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wesley and Richard, who was Bob's twin brother; and two sisters, Ruth and Mary.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of 4 Malloy South at the Iowa Veterans Home for the tender and high-quality care and attention they have given both Bob and Kathy.
